AI Image Restoration
AI Image Restoration repairs old, blurry, and damaged photos on Honor devices using MagicOS AI inpainting and enhancement.
Why It Exists
Users have many old or damaged photos that they want to preserve and improve. Traditional restoration requires professional skills and expensive software. AI Image Restoration makes the process simple and accessible.
How It Works
AI Image Restoration uses MagicOS AI's deep learning models to repair and enhance degraded photos. The feature can restore old, blurry, noisy, or damaged images by filling in missing details, reducing noise, sharpening content, and colorizing black-and-white photos. It works on photos stored in the Gallery app and can handle various types of image degradation.
Everyday Use Cases
- Restore a faded family photo
- Remove noise from a blurry snapshot
- Colorize an old black-and-white photo
- Repair scratches and tears on scanned photos
- Enhance old digital photos
User Workflow
- Open Gallery app on an Honor device
- Select a photo to restore
- Tap the AI Image Restoration button
- Choose restoration type (enhance, denoise, colorize, repair)
- AI processes the photo
- Review and save the restored version
AI Processing Flow
On-device neural network model analyzes the photo for damage patterns, then uses inpainting and enhancement techniques to fill in missing or degraded areas. Processing is primarily local for privacy.
Inputs / Outputs
Inputs:
- Degraded photo
- Selected restoration type
- Damage analysis results
Outputs:
- Restored photo
- Enhanced detail
- Reduced noise
- Accurate colors
Known Limitations
- Requires Honor devices with NPU
- Complex restorations may take longer
- Results may vary based on photo condition
Unsupported Scenarios
- Cannot reconstruct details that are entirely absent from the source image
- May not work well on very low-resolution photos
Performance Notes
Simple enhancements complete in 2-5 seconds. Complex restorations may take 10-30 seconds depending on image size. Best quality on devices with dedicated NPU.
