Call Screen
Call Screen uses on-device Gemini Nano AI to identify, transcribe, and filter unwanted calls without user intervention.
Why It Exists
Users receive increasing numbers of spam, scam, and unwanted calls that interrupt daily life and pose fraud risks. Manual screening is time-consuming and error-prone.
How It Works
Call Screen is Google's AI-powered call screening system that runs on Pixel devices using on-device Gemini Nano models. When an unknown caller is detected, the AI assistant answers the call, asks the caller to state their purpose, transcribes the conversation in real-time, and presents a summary to the user. The system can identify and automatically decline spam, scam, and robocalls. All transcription and caller analysis happens entirely on-device on supported Pixel phones, preserving privacy while protecting against fraud.
Everyday Use Cases
- Spam call filtering
- Scam call detection
- Unidentified caller detection
- Call transcription

- If screening is needed, AI answers and asks caller to state purpose
- Conversation is transcribed on-device
- Summary and caller intent are presented to user for decision
AI Processing Flow
Incoming call numbers are checked against Google's spam database. On-device Gemini Nano models analyze call patterns and metadata. For suspicious calls, the AI assistant answers with a natural voice and asks the caller to identify themselves. Real-time speech-to-text transcription runs on the Tensor NPU. The AI classifies the call intent and urgency. Users receive a real-time summary with a recommended action.
