Acer User Sensing
Acer User Sensing uses AI to detect user presence and attention through camera and sensor data on Acer Copilot+ devices with on-device NPU processing.
Why It Exists
Users need automatic device behavior that adapts to their presence and attention without manual lock or wake actions.
How It Works
Acer User Sensing is Acer's AI-powered user presence detection system for Copilot+ PCs. Using on-device NPU processing and the front camera, the system detects whether the user is present, focused on the screen, or away from the device. This enables automatic screen dimming, lock, or wake based on user attention. The system also detects user mood and fatigue through facial expressions for wellness reminders.
Everyday Use Cases
- Presence detection
- Attention monitoring
- Auto screen lock
- Wake on approach
- Fatigue detection
- Wellness reminders
- Power saving
User Workflow
- Front camera captures user presence continuously via NPU analysis
- AI determines attention and presence state
- System applies appropriate action
- User returns and device wakes
- Wellness reminders based on detected fatigue
AI Processing Flow
The front camera captures low-resolution video processed by on-device NPU computer vision models. Face detection and attention tracking determine user presence. Eye tracking estimates focus level. Facial expression analysis detects fatigue. All processing is on-device with no image storage. Privacy is maintained by processing low-res frames without saving to disk.
Inputs / Outputs
Inputs:
- Camera video
- Face detection
- Eye tracking
- Expression analysis
- Attention metrics
- Presence state
